OUR STORY: DIAMONDS & THE DIMOND FAMILY

Where it began:
1960s and the King of Diamonds

In the early 1960s, John Dimond became the first of his name to pursue the family’s namesake: diamonds. His love affair with the precious stone began in the depths of the mining industry, where he learned to grade and sort rough diamonds.

His expertise, keen eye, and good nature allowed him to rapidly ascend the ranks. John soon became a trusted supplier to some of the world’s most prestigious diamond houses. He even forged a close friendship with one of the industry’s most prominent figures, Harry Winston, known as the ‘King of Diamonds’, who frequently flew John to New York for visits.

Following in his footsteps:
1980s and humble beginnings

Inspired by his father, John’s son, Martin, aspired to uphold the family's diamond legacy. A true artisan, he sought training in Antwerp, Belgium, mastering the art of transforming rough diamonds into the coveted treasures displayed in Bond Street's shop windows. This expert craftsmanship formed the cornerstone of the diamond business he established in 1989 in London’s renowned diamond and jewellery district: Hatton Garden.

Polishing precious stones is a rare and intricate skill that demands years to master and countless hours to perfect. Martin Dimond’s unwavering dedication, hard work, and passion for diamonds have moulded him into a true diamond connoisseur. For over 20 years, Martin utilised his unparalleled expertise to expand his business, buying and selling stones to jewellers around the world. As his network grew, so did his dreams.

Gradually, he diversified into designing and crafting bespoke jewellery. Equipped with his little black book of London’s finest craftsmen and women, Martin continued to create high-end customised jewellery and diamond engagement rings, meticulously sourcing every diamond himself.

Martin’s son, Harry, always had a strong desire to join the family business. His excitement and ambition are met with a strong and clear vision for the future. A design graduate, Harry brings an affinity for aesthetics, using it to breathe life into each client’s dream creation.

Together, the father and son duo amalgamate profound knowledge and experience with a fresh, contemporary approach to designing bespoke jewellery.

As one of London’s few remaining families of diamond purists, the Dimonds’ combination of craftsmanship, passion, and deep-rooted expertise is one of the city’s rarest and most precious commodities.

Although much has changed over the years, our values remain the same. We were founded on the principle that expert education, transparency and fairness are as important as the attributes of the diamonds themselves, and this will never change.
